The 2026 Chinese New Year GALA is a grand celebration that blends cultural heritage and artistic innovation. It will be staged on February 18, 2026 at Melbourne Recital Centre and February 22, 2026 at Sydney Opera House. These two world-renowned performance venues will transform into dazzling stages showcasing the charm of Chinese dance, delivering a visually and emotionally stunning feast for audiences. From the modern artistic contours of the Melbourne Recital Centre to the elegant shell-like structure of the Sydney Opera House, both venues provide the perfect backdrop for dancers to shine. Here, dance is not merely movement but a dialogue of cultures and an emotional exchange where Eastern and Western arts collide to spark vibrant creativity.
This audition focuses on Han and Tang dynasty dance, a form rich in cultural heritage. The Han and Tang periods represent the pinnacle of Chinese civilization. Han-Tang dance, with its distinctive artistic style, vividly reflects the grandeur and romance of that era. Merging classical grace with the fluidity of folk dance, each movement embodies deep cultural meaning — from the flowing elegance of sleeve dances to the strength and poise of its powerful steps, telling stories from thousands of years ago.
We believe that behind every dancer lies a moving story — perhaps a lifelong passion nurtured since childhood, countless days and nights of rigorous practice, or a heartfelt mission to carry forward Chinese cultural traditions. Han-Tang dance offers dancers a profound way to express emotions and share stories, opening a treasure chest of inner passion, allowing audiences to witness their love for dance and appreciate the depth of Chinese culture.
The audition is open to female dancers aged 8 and above, with strong dance fundamentals, especially in Chinese folk or classical dance. We look forward to seeing your graceful figures on stage, where every leap, turn, and extension becomes a beautiful interpretation of art; where every drop of sweat and tear dedicated to dance becomes a touching note in this grand cultural symphony.
To ensure fairness, transparency, and professionalism, detailed and rigorous audition guidelines have been established. Dancers are encouraged to express their passion for life and dance through body language, sharing their unique artistry.

Dance Style: Han Tang Style Dance
Registration & Video Submission Deadline: June 25, 2025
Registration Fee: AUD $38
Eligibility: Female dancers aged 8 and above, with strong dance foundation (folk or classical dance preferred)
📹 Audition Submission Requirements (Video Format)
Front Photo: Full-body front photo in practice attire, white background, showcasing confidence and elegance.
Side Photo: Full-body side profile photo in practice attire, white background, capturing your posture and movement.
Basic Technique Video: Horizontal format, max 2 minutes. Demonstrate your technical foundation including front, side, back leg extensions; front and back bridges; grand jumps; multiple turns (including flat turns and cross-legged turns).
Dance Performance Video: Horizontal format, max 2 minutes. Present your personal expression and passion for dance.

This will include performance arrangements, rehearsal schedules, and important preparation guidelines for the 2026 Chinese New Year GALA. It will also serve as an opportunity for artistic exchange and mutual encouragement, where dancers can learn from one another and prepare together for the upcoming performance.
