Open for Registration for 2025 Dunhuang Star Youth Chinese Traditional Music Showcase

Purpose
2025 Dunhuang Star Youth Chinese Traditional Music Showcase is a premier event within the “Dunhuang” brand cultural initiative organized by Shanghai Traditional Musical Instrument No.1 Factory. This event is open to a wide range of traditional Chinese music enthusiasts. It is a crucial platform created to promote the inheritance, dissemination and development of Chinese ethnic musical culture and music culture, with the aim of uniting and serving the traditional Chinese music resources both at home and abroad. The aim is to stimulate the enthusiasm of the general public for traditional Chinese music, providing a stage for every teenager with a dream of traditional Chinese music to showcase their talents and opportunities for future musical development. It also aims to promote the popularization and dissemination of Chinese traditional music culture, inherit and develop the art of playing Chinese ethnic musical instruments, and discover and cultivate talents in the field of ethnic musical art.

Open to overseas enthusiasts and students of Chinese traditional instruments, including but not limited to: Guzheng, Yangqin, Pipa, Erhu, Dizi, Xiao, Liuqin, Guqin, Konghou, and other Chinese national instruments.

Overseas Australia-New Zealand Competition Guidelines​

Performing musical instruments​: Players and learners of Chinese traditional ethnic musical instruments such as Guzheng, Yangqin, Pipa, Erhu, Bamboo flute, Xiao, Liuqin, Guqin, and Konghou.

Performing formats: Solo and ensemble (group performances).

Non-professional Group:
Participants in the Australia–New Zealand regional division will register online and be evaluated through live, in-person assessments.
Offline Registration Period (AU-NZ Regional Division): From now until June 15, 2025.
The Finals Round (Offline): To be held in Melbourne, Australia on July 5–6, 2025.
Participants unable to attend in person may submit a pre-recorded video for evaluation.
Qualified participants will be eligible for the Grand Showcase in China, with online registration and in-person evaluation.

Song Requirements: Participants must choose one song with a duration of no more than 5 minutes.

Designated Instruments: "Dunhuang" brand musical instruments are specified for use in this event. Guzhengs tuned to D and G will be provided; participants must supply their own instruments for other tunings.

Song Changes: If participants wish to change their selected song, they must notify the organizing committee at least two weeks before the event.

Judges' Authority: Judges may stop a performance or request a specific section to be played, and such interruptions will not affect the final score.
Awards
-
Solo Categories: Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Excellence Awards will be presented in each age group, along with official certificates.

Advancement: All Gold, Silver, and Bronze solo winners will qualify for the China Grand Showcase.

Ensemble Category: Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Excellence Awards will be awarded, with both group and individual certificates presented. Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners will also be eligible for the China Grand Showcase.

Special Awards: “Outstanding Instructor Award” and “Outstanding Organization Award” will be presented with official certificates.
Participation Guidelines
Repertoire: One self-selected piece (maximum 5 minutes).
Designated Instrument Brand: Participants are required to use Dunhuang-branded Chinese traditional instruments. (D and G tuned guzheng will be provided; other tunings or instruments must be brought by participants.)
Repertoire Changes: Any changes to the performance repertoire must be reported to the organizing committee at least two weeks prior to the event.
Jury Rights: Judges reserve the right to interrupt a performance or request a specific section to be played; such interruptions will not affect the final score.
General Terms & Regulations

Once registered, all participants are deemed to have accepted the terms and conditions of this event and must comply with all rules and requirements set forth in this document.

Participant certificates and award documents will be printed based on the information provided in the registration form.
Please ensure all information—especially the participant’s name—matches official identification.
The organizers are not responsible for any losses resulting from errors made during form submission. -
The organizing committee reserves the right to broadcast, publish, and distribute audio and video recordings of the event.
Award recipients are expected to participate in non-profit performances, public events, or international exchanges organized by the committee when invited. -
All participants and their guardians must comply with competition rules and venue discipline, and accept the scheduling and results arranged by the organizing committee and jury panel.
Any disputes may be submitted to the organizing committee for review.
Participants who cause disruption or interfere with the event may be disqualified at the discretion of the organizers. -
In case of cancellation or postponement due to force majeure (unforeseen events), official announcements will be published on the event's official website.

If a participant needs to change their performance repertoire, the new selection must be reported to the organizing committee at least two weeks prior to the event.

All performances must be memorized.
Only non-professional participants over the age of 20 may use sheet music during the performance. -
Participants must check in at least 30 minutes before their performance, using their registration information to confirm their repertoire.
Failure to check in on time will be considered a voluntary withdrawal from the event. -
All travel, accommodation, and transportation expenses related to participation must be borne by the participants.

Photography, audio recording, and video recording are strictly prohibited at the event venue without prior authorization.

Safety Notice:
It is strongly recommended that all participants and accompanying persons purchase personal and property insurance in advance.
In the event of personal injury or property loss during the event, all parties—including organizers, co-organizers, participants, and companions—shall bear their respective legal responsibilities in accordance with applicable laws.
